I plan to travel the world over the next 10 years. I will start my travels in Asia, followed by South America, then Europe. I am looking for a portable device or software that can be loaded into a portable device.
The idea solution will be able to do the following:
Listen to the voice of a foreign speaker and translate their words into english as audible output. Listen to my voice as I speak in English and translate to a foreign language as an audible output.
I imagine having a short conversation in a foreign country. I speak and the device translates into the foreign language then speaks the language in the foreign language. Then the foreign person replies in their native language, the device uses a microphone to recognize the speech and translate it into english.
What products can do this?

The NTL-13AS is able to listen to a person speaking a foreign language via a microphone, then translate to English?
THe NTL-13AS can listen to my words that I speak in English and translate to a foreign language, then play the words in the foreign language audibly?

I am astounded by this! As far as I knew this technology had not reached the market yet. Are you sure you understand what I am asking? I hope you are not misleading me.
I knew of only one product that can do this. it just reached the market and is only in PC format. Your saying you have real speech to speech translation on a handheld platform?

Sorry I am having a little trouble believing this. Please clarify. I'm sure we must be misunderstanding each other. This is too good to be true. I viewed the video brochure for the iTravel series. It appears that it has voice recognition where I can speak one of the preprogrammed phrases (not free speech), then it will recognize which phrase I said and translate into the target language. However there was no mention of doing this in reverse. The video did not mention iTravel's ability to recognize what the foreign speaker says and translate that into audible english. This would require voice recognition and the translation of freeform speech as you cannot predict what the foreign speaker might say. You have clearly indicated that the iTravel can do this. If this is correct it is truely break-through technology.

Yes, the iTRAVL series provides speech-to-speech translation in both ways for phrasebook entries (most common travel phrases).
